Ozone is a molecule made up of 3 oxygen atoms. It is an unstable molecule that breaks down rapidly, which is why ozone is often produced on-site in a laundromat.  Ozone is a strong oxidizing agent thus conferring its sterlization and fabric whitening capabilities. 

Ozone sterlizes and whitens fabrics by using only cold water. Compared to Hot water washing, this saves a substantial amount of energy and results in less damage to the fabrics.

In the past, Hot water was often used in Hospitals, Nursing homes and Food businesses because of its ability to sterilize and release dirt from heaviily soiled laundry. Since the commercialization of Ozone generators, hot water consumption has declined substantially in these facilities. When water is hot enough to sterilize, it inevitably damages the fibers in your fabrics. In addition, hot water is also known to shrink and wrinkle clothing. For these reasons, the popularity of a hot water wash is on the decline.

Many people are not aware that you can significantly reduce the time spent doing your laundry in the laundromat, which is not achievable at home. While wash cycles are difficult to shorten because cleaning agents need time for the chemistry of breaking down dirt to occur, your drying times can be halved rather easily.

In a large capacity laundromat where multiple dryers are available, you can generally half your drying time by splitting your load into 2 dryers. Suppose your 16kg laundry typically takes 60 minutes to dry in 1 Dryer. By splitting your load into 2 Dryers (with 8kg each), your create more air space between your clothes which makes drying much faster. While the reduction in drying times will vary with the type of fabric and how well it retains water, the general rule that "2 Dryers will halve your drying time" is a good starting point for your own estimation.

Since laundromats charge Dryers based on the duration of operation and not by the number of machines used, running 2 Dryers for 30 minutes and 1 Dryer for 60 minutes will cost you exactly the same amount. In essence, you have saved half the time without paying a cent more. This technique is only possible in a large capacity laundromat because of the many Dryers available to you which you will certainly not find at home.

We only ask that you be considerate and refrain from using this technique when the laundromat is packed.

Health reasons: Although sunlight can kill many micro-organisms, sunlight largely sterilizes the exposed surfaces and cannot penetrate thicker materials. On the other hand, high heat is effective in killing micro-organisms and heat can permeate thicker material more easily. To achieve sterilization in hospitals, they use hot water of >70°C. But at home, many of our daily clothes won't last long under such hot water and cannot tolerate the abrasive washing action happening simultaneously inside a washing machine. Dryers can achieve high temperatures to sterilize and has a gentler tumbling motion that will not damage our clothes as quickly. So using a Dryer to sterlize from time to time is desirable.

Safety reasons: Nowadays, the ever increasingly aging population often stay on their own. Without children or helpers to assist them in even with the simplest chores, lifting and hanging of their laundry can result in slips, trips and even fatal falls.

Practical reasons: With increasing smaller condominiums and shoe-box apartments, citizens barely have space in their homes for large appliances like a washing machine, what more the space needed to hang-dry their laundry.
